What is the maximum transmission distance for HART-to-RS485 converters?
The standard transmission distance for RS485 loop configurations runs up to 1200 meters using standard twisted-pair shielded cabling. However, this varies based on transmission baud rates and local electrical interference. For extended distances, serial hubs, repeaters, or GPRS/4G remote data collectors (such as the SM626H-A) are recommended to send telemetry directly over cellular networks.
How does galvanic isolation protect industrial PLC cards and control systems?
Galvanic isolation isolates the input and output electrical circuits using optocouplers or electromagnetic barriers. This layout prevents ground loop currents, which can occur when different parts of a factory floor operate at varying ground potentials.
